Tend to your garden…

I was speaking with a coworker this morning and he shared how he wasn’t looking forward to his upcoming birthday because of various reasons, including finances and how getting older reminds him that every year his circle gets smaller.

As he was speaking, the term “change in perspective” came to me. We got interrupted, so I didn’t get to verbally share all that was coming to me, but I did write it out and give to him. This is what the Holy Spirit downloaded to me, and I truly believe that it’ll bless others. It blessed me as I was writing it!

Letter: Maybe the “stripping” is for greater growth. Not calling anyone a “weed”, LOL, but there is always the necessity of pulling up/rooting out, to he able to successfully grow fully!

Holy Spirit instructed me to look up the benefits of pulling out weeds!

Just a quick web search and the benefits of pulling weeds is that they

  • Compete with your food
  • Block out sunlight and steal water
  • Crowd out your crop space
  • Hide your crop
  • Camouflage pests and disease
  • Give you a reason to be in your garden

(By this time, I was ‘bout shouting at my desk, LOL)

God is giving you and awesome opportunity, these last few years. He’s been weeding out the individuals who have been essentially, taking nourishment from you and blocking you from experiencing God (sunlight and water) to the fullest, hiding the abundance God wants to bring to your life. And hiding you from seeing the abundance. Allowing them to stay, keeps you (us) from seeing the damage they may be doing to us.

With the situation of your circle getting smaller and your finances, God says “He wants to show you how much He can do with the little you have”.

Think of the 2 fish and five loaves! Submit what you have to Him and let Him multiply it!

Matthew 14:14-21

14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. 15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. 16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. 17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. 18 He said, Bring them hither to me. 19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. 21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

(Also found in Mark 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17 and John 6:5-14)

The other part of what you mentioned about your age. It sounds like a part of you in grieving, I can hear it in your voice. Identify what that is and find out why. God may be having some things die to bring about a greater harvest (John 12:24) but if we stay attached to it, we die (emotionally/mentally) with it. Gotta let it go!

  • What does “losing” that person, place or thing mean to you?
  • Why is it hard to let go?

Whatever it is, surrender it to God, knowing He always has greater for us. Surrender the hurt, pain, expectation, and fear.

**What I forgot to add to the letter is the last benefit to pulling weeds…that it gives us a reason to be in your garden!

Pulling up weeds helps the gardener to be more mindful of their garden, so they can begin to easily spot (or identify) what needs to be plucked up and what other things need more attention!

I included the link to the original article of the benefits of pulling weeds, because it’s a whole ‘nother post in itself! See some notes below…

  • Weeds hide your precious crop when you are making your harvest. But they could also be hiding the symptoms of pests and diseases that will stress the plants and decrease the yields. Through quick identification and action, many of these problems could be nipped in the bud before they become larger problems.
  • When you pull weeds, it gives you a chance to study and make mental notes of what is going on with life in your garden. You can observe successes, catch potential failures, learn to identify pests or beneficial insects and cultivate your best garden.

Tend to the garden of your life, your relationship with God, your relationship with family, etc.! A change in perspective (your attitude or viewpoint) can help you endure (to remain; persevere; not to recede or flee) a situation that you may currently dread or is not ideal.

Personal example, as I have shared my testimony of how God led me to move to Georgia, He also confirmed that this job was where He wanted me to be. It is a 40-minute drive in the morning and nearly an hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes after work. It is nowhere near ideal, especially when I’m sleepy but it’s where God wants me to be, and I know it’s only temporary, so I endure and adjust. Every day, I pray that God’s name will be glorified and has created opportunities for that to happen. It’s not to puff me up, because I couldn’t do any of this without Him. It’s all for His glory!
