Scripture reference: 23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. (Mark 9:23-27)
Song: More than Able (featuring Chandler Moore & Tiffany Hudson)/Elevation Worship
While listening to the song, More than Able (featuring Chandler Moore & Tiffany Hudson) by Elevation Worship (https://youtu.be/dQ1xxoP7NJk?si=m0xyLJZsmojj6rIy), Holy Spirit impressed upon me the need for us get back to faith… “believing/trusting” in God. But what does that mean? What does that look like?
Over the past 3 years, Holy Spirit has been depositing specific songs in my spirit and also highlighting specific lyrics in those songs that coincide with the Word of God, prompting me to dig deeper as Holy Spirit leads. I speak about this in my recent YouTube videos (YouTube)
Here are some of the lyrics of the song here:
When did I start to forget
All of the great things you did
When did I throw away faith for the impossible
How did I start to believe
You weren’t sufficient for me
Why do I talk myself out of seeing miracles
You are more than able (4x)
Who am I to deny what the Lord can do
Now I see all that I have
And I’ve got my confidence back
I put my trust in the one who still does miracles
You do miracles
You are more than able (4x)
Who am I to deny what the Lord can do
Can you imagine
with all of the faith in the room
what the Lord can do, what the Lord can do
It’s gonna happen
Just let the Way Maker through
He’s gonna move, He’s gonna move
One of the lyrics that stood out to me was
Can you imagine, with all of the faith in the room, what the Lord can do?
When I heard this verse, I had a visual of an actual room and it being “filled” with smoke but the smoke represents our words. What are we filling our spaces with? I’m sure we’ve all experienced a time when we could tangibly feel the negativity or positivity in a room or atmosphere, so we know how real this can be.
What we say matters? How we think matters? It may be that we’ve gotten so accustomed to the environment that we’re living in, that we don’t recognize how negative or inoperative it has become. We’ve “settled” into the norm of life. We “expect” God to move in our lives, simply because we said “I do!” at the day of conversion but have sat down on our assignment and have not done anything more.
Mark 6:5-6says,
5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
In helping us “locate” ourselves, below is how the Blue Letter Bible defines unbelief and belief…
o Greek word for “unbelief” (apistia):
– want of faith, unbelief: shown in withholding belief in the divine power, (Mark 16:14),
– or in the power and promises of God, (Romans 4:20; Hebrews 3:19);
– in the divine mission of Jesus, (Matthew 13:58; Mark 6:6);
– by opposition to the gospel, (1 Timothy 1:13);
– with the added notion of obstinacy (stubbornness), (Romans 11:20, 23; Hebrews 3:12)
– contextually, weakness of faith: (Matthew 17:20)
o Greek word for “belief” (pisteuō);
– to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), i.e. credit; by implication,
– to entrust (especially one’s spiritual well-being to Christ):—believe(-r),
– commit (to trust), put in trust with.
So, essentially, Mark 6:5-6is saying, ‘Jesus could do no mighty works because people withheld their belief in Him; questioned His power and the truth of His promises/His purpose and mission’. They did not believe in what Jesus stood for and they forfeited their blessing of healing and deliverance, therefore Jesus was limited/stifled in what He could do.
What we believe about God/Jesus and how we view Him has a direct effect on what He can do in our lives! Whew…insert mind-blown emoji!
It makes me think about the father of the demon possessed child who said, “Lord, help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:23-27) Knowing God helps us understand the Sovereignty of God!!
23Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
When God was going to destroy Sodom and Gommorah, Abraham petitioned Him but concluded with “Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.” (Genesis 18:26-32) but Abraham started with asking if there be 50 righteous!
Abraham stood in faith, as an intercessor, for Sodom & Gommorah (the most wicked place during that time) as an attempt to save it, in the midst of God’s impending wrath. He understood, not only the character and mercy of God, but the power of the presence of righteous people in a place. We have to come to know and operate in the power/authority God has given us (See Luke 10:19)!
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. (Romans 5:19). When Adam sinned, he forfeited the authority he had in God to have dominion over the earth. “So, by the obedience of ONE” (Jesus), Kingdom Believers have gained that authority back.
It takes faith to believe in a God you cannot see! It takes even more faith to trust in a God that you don’t have a relationship with…get to KNOW Him!
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
We have gotten so accustomed to the way of this world, that Holy Spirit has to remind us daily of the power we possess (Luke 10:19), that the battle that is already won (Colossians 2:15, John 16:33), that this is not our ‘home’ (Hebrews 13:14, NLT)
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Cor. 4:18). We cannot get distracted by the things of this world because it’ll choke every Word (Matthew 13:22) deposited to set us free and attempt to steal our identity in Christ!
What do you still ‘question’ about God that could be limiting what God is able to do in your life?
What areas of your life do you still need to build your confidence in God?
Have you been looking too much at your circumstances, or at others, planting the seed of discouragement or comparison??
My prayer is that, you would begin to set aside dedicated time to the Lord, and as you are consistent in reading your Word (the Bible) and in prayer, that the Holy Spirit will illuminate your understanding (Ephesians 1:18) to who He truly is and that as you fill yourself with Him, you will begin to operate in the wisdom, authority and dominion Christ has given you to be all He has created you to be in this earth.
During an interview with Dr. Jackie Greene, Jackie Hill Perry responded to a question about “taking off falsehood” (video posted 11/7/23), stating
“If I have no concept of Sovereignty, then it feels like my life is more random than it is actually providential; if I don’t have a context of His goodness, “where Jesus says to the rich young ruler, why do you call me good, only God is good” (Mark 10:18). Jesus has just told me something true about the nature of God. Jesus is not a liar (Numbers 23:19), so if Jesus Himself says that God is good, then He is good. So, now that I have a basis that God is not only Sovereign but also good, I can entrust my future and my life to Him. And I think the problem is a lot of people don’t trust God because they don’t know His Word and because they don’t know His Word, they don’t know His nature and because they don’t know His nature, they don’t even know how to trust Him because He’s just a stranger. Nobody trusts strangers. That’s how we have to view our life in God’s scriptures. If we don’t read God’s Word, looking for Him in it, He will remain a stranger and therefore we won’t give Him the things He actually deserves to have. Read your Bible and look for Him in the text!”
I’ve discussed in previous YouTube videos that John 1:1 tells us that God IS His Word.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1
When we read/study the Word, we are consuming and learning of God/Jesus. As you read, you can sense His Power and how “alive” His Word really is! Renewing our mind to Truth (Romans 12:2)!
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. (John 6:35)
Get to KNOW Jesus today…you will not be disappointed!
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; (Matthew 11:29)
