A lot of times we hinder our own growth/success/forward progression because we suffer from the dream killers of insecurity and doubt. We think we have to ‘know it all’ before making the first step, when in actuality, God says that He would direct our path (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Which implies that we may not know everything upfront but in trusting God, our path will be as a “shining light, that shineth more and more” (Prov. 4:18). This has been a personal struggle of mine for years, that I’ve gained victory in, however with each new “exploit”, that “old foe” tends to come creeping back in. A few weeks ago, a life coach I “follow” on Instagram, asked her life coach ‘followers’, if they had any questions.
One person asked, “Is it more advisable to heal yourself first before you can help others?” And the life coach responded, “We are all wounded healers. Yes, work on yourself AND work with others. If this is your calling…God will give you the GRACE to do it”.
I thought that was such a great response! So insightful and encouraging! I was reminded of Luke 17:14, after the men with leprosy cried out for mercy for Jesus to heal them.
In a pronouncement of faith, Jesus said “Go show yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed (healed)”. My interpretation of the IG post, in relation to the scripture verse is that, as we GO/take action, we will also be ‘healed’ (restored to mental, physical, emotional health, become sound and also gain confidence) in the process.
Even though Jesus does not specifically pronounce healing, in that day and time the priest was one that would confirm the healing, so it was an act of faith and obedience on part of the men with leprosy. It wasn’t immediately visible but by faith they went and through their obedience, their healing manifested!
We get so concerned about what we think we don’t have versus examining what’s in our hand, and taking ownership of it. In 2 Kings 4:2, the prophet Elisha asks the widow woman,1 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
2 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
Her response can lead one to believe that she felt that what she already had in her possession (the pot of oil) was too insignificant to be profitable or make a difference in her situation. The very thing she thought lacked worth was the very thing that brought deliverance and freedom to her home.
Similarly, Moses, in Exodus 4:1-4, when he doubted his ability as God directed him to speak to the elders of Israel concerning their freedom….1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The Lord hath not appeared unto thee. 2 And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. 3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it. 4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
It was that same rod that parted the Red Sea, in Exodus 14:16-21 setting the Israelites free from bondage.
What do you have in your heart, hand, home that God has given you?
Could the very thing you feel is of no value, insignificant, worthless, etc., be the very thing that could catapult you into your destiny? Dust off the manuscript, that sewing machine, those skills that you’ve buried and let God’s grace turn it into your deliverance!!
